Thomas T. Myers
Senior Vice President and Technical Director
B.S. Aerospace Engineering, Iowa State University, 1969
M.S. Mechanics and Structures, University of California, Los Angeles, 1975
Mr. Myers has broad interests in vehicle dynamics and control including applications to aerospace, automotive and marine vehicles. Over his career he has managed or served as Principal Investigator on many Government research contracts and consulting projects in these technology areas. He is currently Principal Investigator for an Army project, entitled Free fall Analysis and Simulation Tool (FAST), dealing with the aerodynamics and dynamics of free fall parachutists.
Previously Mr. Myers was the Principal Investigator of a Missile Defense Agency project to develop an autonomous flight control system for the MDA High Altitude Airship (HAA). Earlier he developed a variable speed aerial refueling drogue concept under an Air Force contract. Mr. Myers was Principal Investigator on a NASA study of the STI Dynamic Icing Detection System (DIDS) intended to detect aircraft icing through near real time aerodynamic parameter identification. He developed a concept for a high aspect ratio/high range guided airdrop vehicle concept under an Air Force contract.
Under an ONR contract he conducted a study of the dynamics and control of cranes on Navy crane ships. His earlier research and development work included hypersonic flying qualities for the National Aerospace Plane (NASP), ground handling dynamics of a Navy trainer aircraft, aeroservoelastic control for hypersonic aircraft, and the dynamics of high agility fighter aircraft. He led STI projects involving the NASA/Navy F-8 Oblique Wing Research Aircraft, the Advanced Tactical Fighter, the X-31 supermaneuverable aircraft, Direct Force Control aircraft, the X-29 and Space Shuttle. Prior to joining STI in 1973, Mr. Myers worked in the Aerodynamics Group of Rockwell International on the B-1 bomber and Space Shuttle stability and control. Mr. Myers is an Associate Fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA), a member of SAE, and the SAE/IEEE Aerospace Control and Guidance Systems Committee.
