Senior Research Scientist

Sofia Apreleva, Ph.D.M.S., Physics, Saint-Petersburg University, 1994

Ph.D., Physics and Mathematics, Saint-Petersburg University, 2002

Dr. Sofia Apreleva joined STI in November 2010. Currently, her duties include development and implementation of image processing techniques related to moving object recognition, pose estimation, feature detection, and others. Dr. Apreleva has formal training as theoretical physicist with an emphasis on mathematical methods of modeling of dynamic systems and solution of inverse problems in physics, data analysis, and statistics.

Her research was focused on solution of tomographic problems in geophysics and medical imaging, including modeling of forward problems using PDEs, development of nonlinear optimization algorithms for large scaled problems, statistical data analysis using classical and Bayesian statistics, and signal processing
