  • Buses
  • ATVs
  • Motorcycles
  • Trucks
  • Tractor Trailers
  • 5th Wheels

In support of our forensic engineering work, STI technical personnel measure and test vehicles and have tires tested by others, then develop validated vehicle dynamics and tire models from the measured data. Over the years, many vehicles with interesting stability problems have been tested at our facility.

STI also maintains a substantial tire model database, which is frequently updated with new tire data, as STI coordinates tire testing and modeling. Significant additions to our database have been made recently, including some aircraft tires. STI's tire model database has been analyzed to develop general trends for the effect of size and pressure on cornering stiffness and maximum lateral coefficient of friction. A paper was presented on this tire modeling work at the Clemson University 16th Annual Tire Industry Conference in March, 2001.
