Visits Systems Technology, Inc.

Congresswoman Maxine Waters (D-CA35) visited Systems Technology, Inc. on May 31, 2005. STI is a small, employee-owned engineering R&D firm in her Congressional District, and Congresswoman Waters viewed a presentation on the company's history, products and continuing research and development. She also discussed issues facing small businesses and her commitment to the revitalization of technological industry in the South Bay.

Congresswoman Waters viewed demonstrations of STISIM Drive and ParaSim during her visit, and learned about the company's research and development work for US government agencies, including the Dept. of Defense, Dept. of Transportation, NASA, and the National Institutes of Health.

 Congresswoman Waters discussed areas of concern for the community, focusing on issues and opportunities facing small businesses in the current economic climate. She expressed her commitment to furthering the revitalization of technology industries in the South Bay, particularly through fostering cooperation and joint ventures among local businesses. Congresswoman Waters is also a strong advocate of workforce development, with great interest in education plans and internship programs.

Congresswoman Waters, who is currently serving her seventh term in the House of Representatives, is considered to be one of the most powerful women in American politics today. She has gained a reputation as a fearless and outspoken advocate for women, children, people of color, and the poor. She was recently named Co-Chair of the powerful House Democratic Steering Committee, and continues to serve on the House Committee on the Judiciary and the Committee on Financial Services. She is also the ranking member of the Subcommittee on Housing and Community Opportunity.
